My Mission is to Empower Your Life
Transform your life and achieve your goals with professional and personalized support.
I am a Level 7 (MA equivalent) Psychoanalytic Supervisor approved by the British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision (BAPPS).
I am trained in cross-modality supervision and currently supervise Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Integrative Counsellors, EMDR Therapists, CBT Therapists and Psychotherapists.
My supervisees work within the NHS, schools, colleges, private sector organisations, EAPS, affiliate groups and as private practitioners.
I also supervise trainee therapists from a variety of different courses and provide specialist supervision to Independent Sexual Violence Advisors.
Clinical Supervision provides therapists with a safe space where they can analyse their own clinical work with clients. The process focuses on the relationship and dynamics that may play out in the therapeutic frame, that can inform or obstruct the client work. The analytic space created encourages supervisees to see their own part as well as their client’s part in these dynamics. Supervision allows supervisees to consciously improve and develop the quality of their clinical practice. It also enables them to understand more about the individual client and their needs as well as informing their understanding of therapeutic process. This ensures the client remains at the centre of the process and the clinical work continues to be effective and dynamic.
I work hard to provide a space where we can celebrate good clinical practice but also where we can analyse problems and mistakes in practice in a non-shaming way so that supervisees can learn, develop and grow in confidence.
The focus is always on the client but also on the development of my supervisees’ individual ways of practising so that they can develop a personal style of therapy which is different for every practitioner.
The importance of the effective use of supervision to inform practice is an essential part of BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and of the BAPPS guidelines.
EMDR Consultation and Attachment Focused/Informed EMDR Consultation
I am an accredited EMDR consultant with EMDR Europe and EMDRIA (The EMDR International Association) and I am also an approved Attachment informed / Attachment Focused EMDR Consultant with EMDR Focus.
EMDR Consultation allows supervisees to ask specific questions and address particular problems or blocks arising with clients. This can range from questions connected to specific protocols they are using to blocks supervisees are experiencing within the therapeutic relationship. I work to place this within the Adaptive Information Processing Model and to address elements of the work supervisees may be struggling with or having difficulty understanding. Because of the level of trauma being worked with in EMDR, therapists and clients are often experiencing high levels of affect. EMDR consultation focuses on providing effective and safe services for clients and promotes the confidence of the therapist to courageously undertake the work whilst keeping this within the client’s window of tolerance.
I work to provide an environment where mistakes and problems can be explored honestly, without shame or judgement, on the premise that learning from our mistakes is vital for continual improvement in clinical EMDR practice.
I provide EMDR consultation on Standard Protocol EMDR and attachment focused / informed protocol EMDR. I also use elements of IFS and my experience as a Psychoanalytic supervisor to inform this work.”
